[edit] (a little girl with nothing wrong)
Annuska was born in a pocket dimension, fathered by her half-brother's ex-lover on a woman who really ought to have been past it, descends from the royal houses of Hungary and Byzantium and the royally screwed Duke of Cornwall, and was raised by an epileptic knight-errant and a dead French revolutionary. And you wonder why she's slightly crazypants.
[edit] eyes wide open, always hoping for the sun
Her mother was Morgause, queen of Orkney and Lothian, a woman known for affairs with younger men and not for raising well-adjusted children. Her father, Sir Sagramore, was a wayward Hungarian prince with a diehard crush on Morgause's son Mordred. When his lady-love turned up pregnant with her seventh (and first posthumous) child, Sagramore did some not-very-hard thinking and elected to raise Annuska by himself.
In practice, he had help -- both from the kid's grown half-siblings, and from his other lovers, most notably a nineteenth-century Frenchman by the name of Courfeyrac.
[edit] and she'll sing her song to anyone that comes along
Annuska grew up in a quiet backwater corner of the multiverse, where most of her social circle consists of relatives twenty or more years her senior. She's precocious in some ways, astoundingly inept in others.
She rides well, sews badly, speaks four languages fluently and can swear in three more, bakes a mean batch of gingerbread, can handle a sword well enough to defend her virtue from a reasonably dumb highwayman, tolerates dogs, and loves pretty dresses.
At bottom, she is her father's daughter; which is to say affectionate, passionate, ridiculous, loyal, sensible when you least expect it, and easygoing right up until you push one of her few buttons, whereupon she will vow, by her pretty floral bonnet no less, to END YOU.
[edit] fragile as a leaf in autumn
Family:
- Sagramore is the world. Even if she wants to smack him.
- Aimery Courfeyrac is the best anachronistic stepfather a girl could ask for.
Friends:
- Enfys Eddings is the awesome aunt she never had.
- Mordred is not actually the half-brother she knows and loves, but shhh.
- Mickey Smith is omgcute, and introduced her to the wonders of toasters.
- Luke Skywalker looks after Enfys for her, which is helpful. Also omgcute, in a less glompable way.
[edit] (and she's all alone)
Annuska is a product of the diseased brain of Mhari. Norah Jones' adorable likeness and the lyrics to "Seven Years" belong to herself.
